DR2DT - Audit and Upgrade SODG graphics

In a nutshell, here are the two things DR2DT does.

  1. Audits - Report matching and mismatching tagnames and tag index values in ways that allow the correct tagname or tag index values to be checked.
  2. Updates - Update all graphics with correct index values first, then update the tagnames to match the correct tag index values. Finally, update the tag index values to match the correct tagnames.

The end result is a set of graphics source files that have had their tagnames (often using the tag index values in the files) examined and checked for structural validity. Mismatches are found and resolved.

Auditing and updating a set of .DR or .DIS files involves the following realities:

  1. If a tagname is blank, only the tag index determines what tag is referenced. DR2DT needs to put the correct tagname in the entry.
  2. If a tagname is not blank, and is undefined, the tag index may show what tag is intended. Subject to confirmation by the client specialist, the correct tagname needs to be inserted.
  3. If a tagname is not blank, and is defined, but the tag index is a mismatch, the client specialist has to find out whether either tagname or tag index is correct. DR2DT can update either to match.
  4. In a set of graphics, an audit of all the mismatches needs to be done to make it possible to spot errors that may never have been found before. For example, if a set of tags in a graphic shows almost complete mismatching with the tag index, but a few are not mismatched, the few that are not mismitched might be wrong.
  5. In a set of graphics, an audit of all the tagnames may show tags that are not correct because they are from a different unit or the equivalent. These have to be resolved by the client specialist.

The above description of the process of using DR2DT is necessary to make sure the client is willing to put the resources needed into making DR2DT work. The base services include using the tools to get the analysis done, and getting queries to the client.

OpenVMS and RSX System Support

We support OpenVMS and RSX operating systems. System modifications with drivers and servers, involving internal system design and low-level programming is an area in which G. Michaels Consulting Ltd. staff has extensive experience. Improving the internals of existing systems can leave older systems with greatly increased capacity and performance, and as easily supported as a much more costly replacement solution.

Here are our RSX resources. Contact us for more information about our support services.
